Little One-month Old
Is it really the second week of August? Oh my. Well, I don't want to completely neglect my third child. I've already failed at providing her with lots of awesome pictures of her as a new newborn. So, now that she has hit the one month mark, I'd better write about her little personality that is beginning to shine forth. Oh I love this baby! She is so precious and snuggly. At one month her favorite pastimes are sleeping, and soiling diapers. She also likes to nurse, but has a love/hate relationship with that activity. She is into fast food so she doesn't always stick around for the dessert known as "hind milk". This causes her to have more gas than is necessary since she doesn't get that fatty part to balance the high lactose "fore milk". This makes her squirmy and grumpy while nursing. She's kinda the worst, but I'm still glad she nurses and I can provide the best nutrition for her developing little self.
Lets see. I like to talk to Maelee about what we are doing throughout the day. "Do you see your sister Jade?" "We're gonna change your bum". "Let's give you a little bath." "Do you feel that warm water? Feels so good." etc. It's really fun. She has begun smiling when I talk to her and do silly things with her. Sometimes she like to play pacifier games... I'll snatch her pacifier out of her mouth (when she's content and awake, of course) and make a happy noise. Then I'll smile at her and she'll smile back. It's so much fun. I also like to sing silly songs and make silly faces in front of her. Her reactions are great. Sometimes she makes super funny faces and the other two kids LOVE that. They laugh and laugh.
Maelee is the snuggliest baby! This sometimes equals high maintenance, but I don't mind. She just likes to be held. She really doesn't like to be left in her swing or on a blanket unless we're right there with her or she's asleep. This makes eating, showering and doing regular household work challenging, but I know she'll be independent soon enough so I try not to let it get to me. I just do my best and embrace a little bit of messy. When I'm with other people I let them hold her to get a bit of a break (because I'm pretty sure my left arm is bulking up due to constant carrying and bouncing ha ha).
Maelee loves her big brother and sister. She likes to be in the same room with them already. She likes their noisy selves and to hear them talking a playing. Braden likes to hold her a lot and Jade likes to talk to her. They have both been so great. There have only been two tiny instances of jealousy on Jadelynn's part. She has been the baby for 5 years, so I consider that a tender blessing that she is adjusting so well.
Maelees current nicknames are: Little Burrito, Fuzzy Head, Pretty Girl, Tiny One and My Little Bobblehead. We'll see if any stick.
Maelee's education right now consists of looking around and studying her infant art cards. I got them free in the mail a week or so ago. She likes looking at the black and white high-contrast shapes of the animal illustrations. Her eyes get all big and she starts kicking and moving her arms around. She's definitely a baby genius (if you ask me). Anyway, I am grateful for Maelee and have felt her sweet spirit provide a lot of healing and happiness for myself and the kids. She is such a pure and perfect little one-month old.
