Owl City night

A couple weekends ago I got to go to a concert with Chelsea and Kara. It was so fun. We saw Owl City and the bands that opened, Paper Route, and Lights. It was pretty much awesome. Mostly because Chelsea and Kara are fun. Paper Route was just OK. They had everything turned up soooo loud that you couldn't hear it. If you've been to a concert, you know what I'm talking about. Lights had a good balance of sound and I was impressed by her stuff. She has a really super high voice and I thought that perhaps after several of her songs I would need to change things up, but overall I would say I'm a fan. She is similar to Owl City in that she is an electo-pop artist. This is a genre of music that I've never seen in concert before. It was actually kinda refreshing. I didn't once have to worry about being on the wrong side of a mosh pit. This was good since I was with two girls who are about as tough as I am :)  Owl City came on with a cool entrance which built from only the drums to a full electo band and lots of dancing. Some of my favorite things about watching Owl City were the following: They had a cool light show. It felt just right for their songs... very fantastical and floaty as if we had been transported into a less harsh world. I also loved loved loved the cello and violin that they had. The two girls that played those nobel instruments seemed really fun. They got up and did some "Supremes"-styled choreographed moves during the times when they weren't producing gorgeously orchestrated harmonies. I can't write about an Owl City concert without mentioning Adam Young's (lead singer) amazing moves. Ha ha. He was cracking me up the way he flew around the stage. They had to leave this large center area open so he had enough room.  He wasn't really a crowd-worker. He did his music, and stuck with entertaining. However as the evening progressed he did deliver the mandatory "You-guys-are-the-best-crowd-we've-played-for-on-this-tour " speech. This, of course, resulted in exhilarated screams and cheers from the fans. He also started having fun encouraging everyone to sing along to his radio hit songs. This was cool to hear and actually many people in the crowd sang to every song they played. I think there is just something appealing about music that is "feel good" and contains wholesome lyrics and peaceful and playful tones. The last highlight was our concert buddy. We didn't get his name, but he was this tall curly-haired kid that was probably a Junior or Senior in high school. He was soooo adorable. He had such a child-like joy and kept saying things to us like, "That was soooo cool!" or "This one is my favorite song". The funny thing about it is that he was with this huge group of friends but for some reason wanted to share the concert experience with us too. He was a great kid and definitely added to our night. It was a very fun evening and I'm glad I got to go with my sisters. A trip to QT for a huge soda was the finale of our Owl City night.
